Wade Sanders sounds off at military.com about the attacks on Sestak from Weldon and his staff. As he fairly points out, such attempts to discredit almost anyone in public life with a military background are injurious and disrespectful. He hates it whether the object of the attack is John Kerry, John McCain…or George W. Bush. But he finds Weldon’s current volleys particularly hypocritical:
This is the same Weldon who less than a year ago stood on the floor of the House of Representatives and passionately railed against the smearing of a military officer, declaring it was “…so outrageous, it makes me sick at my stomach…they are destroying the reputation of a decorated career member of the United States military…if we let that happen then no one who wears the uniform will feel protected because we have let them down.”
I’d like to move past this issue, because this election isn’t about a civic parade or a memorial service in May. It’s about jobs, fiscal resonsibility in government, and dealing with the skyrocketing costs of health care. Our society needs affordable access to high quality education, a healthy environment, and real national security. Somehow, I think that Weldon’s gang aren’t interested in raising the level of debate.
